Hand stitched rug - Paddy Japaljarri Stewart
This rug depicts two dreaming stories; the Mulga Worm dreaming and Duck dreaming. The place in the rug is associated with the country at Yakurrukaji, which is near Yuendumu. This rug shows the tracks of the duck dreaming gathering at a water hole. The wiggly circle around the ducks tracks are his intestine, that part that twists around inside it’s stomach. The rest of the rug shows the worms that can be found around mulga trees and the tunnels they make. These underground chambers have created the natural soakages which can be found all over this part of the country.
